Hi Friends.
News broke recently stating "U.S. officials from the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have urged Americans to use encrypted messaging apps amid an unprecedented cyberattack on major telecommunications companies like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Lumen/Century Link".
***Note at the time of this writing this story was developing. By the time you read this some facts may have expanded.***
So what does this mean for you and I? The average person that isn't an elected official, or power player in governing circles of business and enterprise. Why are we being told that we should migrate our calls and texts to encrypted apps like Signal and...I won't name any other encrypted app vendors because Signal is the only one I truly trust. What it means is the expectation of privacy when engaging in cellular conversations via text or voice is gone for the foreseeable future. This means that the contents of those texts and calls can be freely and widely intercepted by unnamed and faceless "foes" associated with a group called Volt Typhoon, with a description as being "affiliated" with the Chinese government. While the potential impacts of this incredibly broad hack are still being sussed out. The fact that those tasked with investigating and alerting us, (the average joe,) of legitimate threats to our safety and security , have deemed it necessary to inform all of us, that we need to rethink the way that we communicate in our day to day lives. More to come on this developing scenario. For now, seek out, download and start getting comfortable with Signal encrypted communication app as advised by the FBI and CISA.
All for now.
